While a student at the University of California, at Berkeley, Heather earned her living by providing local, residential garden care. Soon, she will be graduating again, this time from Merritt College in Oakland, CA with a degree in Landscape Architecture. She worked with local Landscape Architect Michael McFadden of Planted Earth Design Build Company for nearly three years, leading the garden care program, and working on her own design and installment projects. She also had the chance to study urban farming at the UC Davis Market Garden, where she learned to drive a tractor and grow organic food for CSA production. She likes to dabble in local beekeeping.
Heather offers an artistic and holistic approach to garden design and garden care. She is a Bay-Friendly Qualified Landscaper and a Qualified Water Efficient Landscaper, with a strong sense of aesthetics, offering successful and au courant approaches to developing garden oases. Her work gleans from her experience as a dancer, as a lover of the arts, and as a small piece of the great mystery. She has a dog named Mochi, two cats Willy and Nilly, and lives on an Alameda mini-orchard with her fiance and favorite welder, Dave.
As a child, Heather spent her days rolling through fields in a quest to catch leprechauns and watch her flower dolls come to life. Gardens have always been alive to her -- and she believes the garden drives the spirit, imagination, and growth from within.
Marcie holds a certificate in Landscape Design from Diablo Valley College, which she earned while designing gardens for Wright Landscaping and working on staff for over two years at the lovely Orchard Nursery in Lafayette. She will graduate from Merritt College soon, with an AA in Landscape Architecture.
While employed at the nursery, she gained an exceptional grasp of plant choices in gardens, and how best to care for those plants. Marcie joined Heather at Planted Earth Design Build Company and brought with her an innate ability to provide thoughtful design ideas; to engage in meaningful discussions with homeowners about their gardens; and to handle each plant with care and good judgement.
Marcie dabbles in painting and drawing, and applies color theory to gardens with a very sensible and artistic approach. She also has a dog named Charlie, sells vintage jewelry, and is the biggest fan of her honey Rob, of the band Mall Walk.
